My New Brush Holder

On my last trip to Michael's, I picked up a few things to make myself a holder for my growing makeup brush collection. What I found was a small glass vase, some colored sand and these cute little butterflies. Butterflies are my favorite, can you tell? :o) What do you think of my creation?

Apparently, they are highly pigmented and come in all the colors of the rainbow, not to mention the fantastic price. 10 Things I Learned in Cancun

1) A little UDPP goes a looooooooong way baby! - I just have to say I truly put UDPP (Urban Decay Primer Potion- for those of you not familiar with it, its eyeshadow base) to the test! At one point, I put UDPP under my mac eyeshadow in the morning, went out and was on the beach all day – sweating in the sun, swimming in the ocean- and my eyeshadow went nowhere! I went to bed without washing it off and it was STILL on when I got up in the morning! That stuff was going nowhere until I took it off with makeup remover. Now THAT is what I call staying power!!

2) SPF 30 is NOT enough in Mexico – Yes ladies, I did get a sunburn but honestly I just don’t know how. If I use any kind of SPF product at home, I get not even a hint of sun color. Well, apparently since Mexico is closer to the equator, SPF 30 still doesn’t do the job. My nose, forehead and back were pretty burned. After that day, I used my cousin’s SPF 60 and that seemed to work. I was really frustrated with the burn especially on my face but I guess it happens. I know next time to get the max SPF I could find.

3) Mac Fix + is helpful for a sunburn on your face – When I left for my trip, I’d only had Mac Fix + for about a week or so. I thought it was cool but didn’t really notice much of a difference or effect on my skin. But once I was there, that was all I used, instead of moisturizer and it was a life saver. I probably sprayed it on my face about 3 times a day. It was cool and refreshing and surprisingly, the skin on my face peeled minimally. I didn’t break out while I was there and I really think that helped tremendously.

4) Salt water does wonders for your skin. – Not only do I think the Mac Fix+ helped me, but I also think the salt water had a lot to do with it. Usually, during the summer months when I sweat a little more, I tend to break out a little. Not in Cancun! My skin remained great the entire time I was there and actually is still doing pretty well and I’ve been back for 2 weeks. Nice.

5) No, I would not like to be 18 again thank you very much. – We just happened to, unbeknownst to us, be in Cancun during Grad Week. I don’t mean graduation from college either… I mean high school. This meant we had teeny boppers running around the hotel and beach at all times. Not only did I feel old (is 32 old??) but I kept thinking, Was I that obnoxious at 18?? I don’t think so but I wouldn’t want to go back to find out.

6) Margaritas on a white sandy beach with a crystal blue ocean somehow taste so much better. – enough said… Deliciouso!!

7) You can’t expect to eat a wonderful buffet breakfast every morning and not expect to gain weight. – Yes, it is a fact that if you eat french toast every single morning, you will get a little on the pudgy side…just in case you didn’t know...

8) Houston is hot. Mexico is hot. Houston has WAY more air conditioning, minus the blue ocean view (no, Galveston doesn’t count…no blue water there!). – Ok, I’m used to the humidity and heat. I live in Houston, Texas land of the hot and steamy. But, it was also our unfortunate luck that the air conditioning in our hotel broke and for the majority of the trip, our room was pretty warm. Call me crazy but I can actually say I missed my a/c filled apartment and looked forward to coming home. There is only so much heat I can take. I still miss that ocean view though!

9) I’m not just a gold jewelry person. I’ve officially converted to silver! – I had no idea silver was so cheap in Mexico. Check out my haul…

10) I’m not as much as a party person as I thought. - Lying on the beach with a waitress bringing me an ice cold margarita whenever I wanted it was better than going to any club!

Father's Day Gift

So, what is everyone getting their fathers, grandfathers or husbands/boyfriends for Father’s Day? As usual, every year I’m at a complete loss as to what to get my father. For one he has everything and two, he’s just not that complex. He’s a business man and a sports lover so what that sometimes comes down to is a tie or a book about some baseball something or other that he may or may not already have. This year I decided to go with a common gift for others but something I never remember giving my dad… cologne. My dad wears cologne and always smells good to me but has been wearing the same thing since I can remember, Lagerfeld or Drakkar. I admit to liking both of these scents at one time but to be honest Drakkar just reminds me of the boys in 8th grade overloading on this already strong scent. I loved it but now I think it can be just a little too overpowering. I still like Lagerfeld and the smell will always remind me of my daddy. It might just be me but I think my dad needs to be brought in the 21st century. :o) After smelling several colognes, I decided on Eternity Summer. Now, I’ve always loved Eternity for Men (and just about all of the Calvin Klein fragrances) but Eternity Summer is much lighter and just plain smells great! I personally love to match my scents to the seasons and I think this is a great idea for men too. This is a limited edition scent and I made my purchase during a one day Macy’s sale and got a free Calvin Klein duffle bag and a cooler with a radio on it. (*sidebar* A cooler with a radio on it? When the saleswoman was handing it to me she said, I guess Macy’s is desperate for sales! LOL)

This is how Sephora’s website describes the scent:

Eternity Summer For Men
ETERNITY summer for men is a new, limited-edition fragrance that captures a peaceful afternoon by the sea, complete with fresh air, romantic waves, and delicate grasses swaying in the breeze. A fruit-inspired scent, ETERNITY summer for men opens with a splash of citrus. Its middle greets you with subtle, aromatic notes. On the dry down, the senses are lured with rich, warm woods, and sensual spices.

Notes:Blue Rush Accord, Herbaceous Complex, Guaiac Wood.Style:Fresh. Uplifting. Bright.

Check it out for your loved one on Father’s Day!

My Latest Mac Haul

On Memorial Day, my mother and I stopped by the Mac section in our Nordstrom’s Department store here in Houston. I checked out the new Neo Sci-Fi and Solar Field lines and picked up a couple of things from the last few lines Mac has come out with. The first thing I noticed was the fabulously bright nail polish in the Neo Sci-fi line. Beautiful! My nails badly need some attention and I’ve been dying to try a new bright color for the summer. So, I picked up the nail lacquer color, Plasma Blu. It’s best described as a frosty, blue, turquoise-esk color. I’m getting my nails done and I will post the color soon. I can’t wait! The Neo Sci-fi line is not all as bold as this nail color and I was actually surprised that most of the colors are actually muted considering the extremely bright neon orange packaging. My favorite of the eyeshadows (my favorite splurge of all of Mac’s products) is actually Expensive Pink which is already in my daily collection. My next stop was the new Solar Field display. What the Solar Field line consists of are these pigment-like pots filled with something called Solar Bits. The Mac website describes it as: Highly condensed clusters of pigment and pearl uniquely formulated to give a special hit of frost and colour on eyes and cheeks. Basically, it looks like creamy clumps or bits of pigment that you spread across to make a nice smooth finish. I picked up Bronzescape, which was a really intense bronze/gold color that I can even imagine mixing with some of my color shadows. I will post swatches to try to show you the intensity of this mixture. I just love new products! I’ve never seen anything like this before. The next thing I picked up was the pigment, Mutiny from the new Naughty Nautical line and another pigment from the Heatherette line that I’ve been dying to try, Pink Pearl. When I was checking out, the salesperson told us that there is a special edition brush set event coming up and she will call me before to set up an appointment. I will keep you posted!

My New Favorite Accessory

On my last trip to the mall, I picked up what is now my new favorite accessory. I found these really cute chunky bangle bracelets:

The black one says, Be Positive. Believe in yourself and the cream one says, L’amour toujours l’amour which according to iGoogle translate means, Love always love. Love it!

Doctor Burt's (Burt's Bees) Herbal Blemish Stick aka Miracle Worker!

Ok, as I said earlier, my skin isn’t perfect. I’m now at an age where I thought my hormones would stop reeking havoc on my face but Noooooo!!! So, unfortunately I have the occasional red, beneath the skin, make you want to slap your mama because it hurts so bad, swollen bump. Since I actually started following a real skin care regimen, these bumps have been less often. Never the less, I still get them from time to time. I actually came across this wonderful- should I say miracle?- product when I was having a bad back break out. I was at my local Ulta cosmetics store on my lunch hour and I came across this Doctor Burt's Herbal Blemish Stick (from Burt's Bees line). I noticed it had tea tree oil in it and I’ve always heard that was good for the healing process. It also has something called Willow Bark that apparently works similarly to Salicylic Acid. I applied this to my skin the minute I got in the car. I have to say that I started noticing the redness and the soreness of the bump go away almost instantly. It was incredible! I know that doesn’t sound very exciting but when you are as frustrated as I was, you might have been shouting from the rooftops! lol The stick itself resembles one of those little roll on lip glosses I had as a pre-teen. However, the smell isn’t the greatest. It smells like really strong licorice but it dissipates so don’t think you will walk around smelling like that. All you do is apply the roll on to the actual bump. It goes on slightly wet but dries almost instantly. I carry this around in my purse and if I have a bump, I apply it throughout the day. It doesn’t dry my skin or have any sort of color to it. So, if you are like me and get these dreadful bumps/pimples that just won’t go away, try this. I promise, you won’t be sorry.

Origins- Silk Screen Refining Powder Makeup Review- My Face Buttah

I just love this stuff! It makes my face feel like buttah!! lol This is my daily powder/foundation. It can be worn over liquid foundation or alone. In the winter I did wear it over my foundation but in the hotter, more humid spring/summer months I’m wearing it alone (after my skin care regimen, of course). For me, it has just the right amount of coverage without giving me the cakey look or feel. Previously, I was wearing Studio Fix by Mac (which I still like and is always my back up plan) but I feel that this gives me just as much coverage without caking up or feeling too thick. I’m pretty fair skinned so I wear the color, Tender and it seems to match perfectly. This is definitely one to try for us women who also tend to break out or get clogged pores. My skin is okay but has a tendency to have the occasional break out. My break outs have significantly decreased since using this powder and I don’t think it is a coincidence!
